Fill the mold with graphite mixture
Once you have prepared the mold for your graphite crucible, you can start filling it with the graphite mixture. Graphite blends are mixtures of graphite with certain additives that improve its properties.
First, you need to carefully fill the mold with graphite mixture, pour it on top and gradually compact the mixture using a pestle or other handy tool. It is important to ensure that the entire mold is filled evenly and densely to ensure the high quality and durability of the crucible.
When the mold is filled with graphite mixture to the top edge, use a frame or scraper to carefully remove excess mixture. This is necessary to obtain a smooth crucible surface.
Next, you should leave the graphite mold for a few hours or even overnight to allow the mixture to fully harden and form into the desired shape. After that, you can start firing the graphite crucible in a special furnace.
Advantages of graphite crucible:
— High thermal conductivity
— Chemical resistance
— High melting point
Disadvantages of graphite crucible:
— brittleness
— Oxidation tendency
— Possibility of coating peeling
